Adventures in Learning to Crawl

No Joshua isn't crawling yet, but he seems to be getting closer every day. He started by being able to hold himself up if I put him on his hands and knees then in the last few days he has been able to get himself into the crawling position and then pushes himself up on his toes, actually, he pushes himself up on his big toe! He still only manages to go backwards but its start. The other day he moved all the way from the middle of the living room and ended up getting stuck in between our two sofas, which is when I had to pull him out so he could start all over again. Watch him go (backwards)!

8 Months

Apparently I still haven't figured out how to stop time, or at least slow it down a little. Joshua is already 8 months old. When I came to the realization that he was eight months old I though, I must have skipped a month, nope he actually is 8 months.

Eight months into this parenting thing and I can honestly say he is a great baby, besides the last few days since he has been teething. I love interacting with him and watching him learn new things.

The introduction of new foods continues to go well, however he has already proved that he doesn't like certain things. The main thing that he refuses to eat is his cereal mixed with water, I normally mix it with breast milk but if I don't have any pumped than I have tried mixing it with water and he gags and coughs and refuses to take more, I have even tried mixing it with fruit and still no luck. Recently I have started giving him chunks of food and letting him feed himself. So far he has tried steamed squash, steamed sweet potatoes, and banana on his own. He really doesn't get any of it in his mouth but he seems to really enjoying trying.

He is starting to play with his toys more and more, his newest thing is throwing his toys, at this point they don't go very far but I am sure with time that will change.

He is still not crawling yet and seems to get very irritated if he wants something that is just slightly out of his reach. In a way I am looking forward to his the independance that comes with crawling yet concerned that he will constantly be on the go once he does start crawling.

Pictures to come soon!

Beware He May Bite

After returning home on Ottawa Chris made sure to check if Joshua had broken his first tooth, nothing was there. Later that night after I was wiping his face I noticed that he had something on his gums so I went to wipe it away and to my suprise it was a tooth. I couldn't believe that it had popped up so quickly. I think he is getting ready to sprout another one because he has been quite difficult the last few days and is waking even more frequently than he was before.

I nice quiet day on the whole today, Joshua treated me by having a one hour nap this morning and a two hour nap this afternoon. It was nice and I enjoyed the free time. Later in the day Christine, Joshua and I headed out to Place d'Orleans to shop for Christina's Christmas and Birthday present, I figured I might as well get something she likes since I am here.
Joshua was so happy after his long nap that he wanted to make his Daddy proud by checking out the weekly flyer specials!

Happy Thanksgiving

We were very busy this Thanksgiving doing lots of visiting. We started off the day with lunch at my step-father's, Richard, parents house. It's a big family and Joshua got to see lots of people.

After lunch we headed went over to my Auntie Anne and Uncle Dean's house for dinner and Joshua got to do even more visiting. I was very proud of Joshua, he was so good at being passed around to everyone and he didn't seem to be too bothered.

We went out to visit my stepfather, Richard, out in the country today. Richard got to meet Joshua for the first time, and Joshua made another pint-sized friend (himself). He was so fascinated by his reflection in the mirror and he kept trying to touch the person smiling back at him.

Today my sister Christina, Joshua and I went out for lunch with my Auntie Anne and my cousins David and Matthew at the Golden Palace, everything was delicious. After lunch we thought it wise to take a bit of a walk to work off that delicious lunch so we took a quick stroll around Andrew Hayden Park, it was a beautiful day.

Later than night I went out for the evening with my friend Erika, we had a great time and then came back to my mom's house and had one of our good old girls nights.

Joshua and I had an adventurous day today, we started off by going for a walk and checking out the neighbourhood. We later met up with Christina and decided that we would take the bus down to St. Laurent Shopping Centre. Doesn't sound very exciting yet does it! So the three of us set off on the bus. We get to St. Laurent and I quickly realize that there is no way I am going to get out the front door (I have Joshua in the stroller) so I quickly begin pushing my way to the back door, I don't think the other passengers wanted to share the aisle with a stroller. I eventually get to the back door my Christina steps off the bus and just as I am about to push the stroller through the door it closes in front of me, so this leaves me and Joshua on the bus and my sister standing outside on the bus platform. I yelled at the driver that I needed to get off but he had already started moving so would not let me off. I have no idea where the bus is going or how far away the next stop is. The other passengers must have felt really bad for me because they told to wait for two stops instead of getting off at the next stop. I quickly told them that I was from out of town, so they didn't think I was a total idiot. I text messaged Christina who had been sending me texts wondering what the heck had happened and told her I was on my way back. By the time I got back to the mall all that we could do was laugh. Joshua was great through out the bus trip and smiled at everyone!

A family friend, Zina, came to Ottawa for a visit today, it was so nice to see her since I haven't seen her for quite a few years. After a few hours of visiting we went over to visit Great Grandma. We had a great afternoon and Joshua enjoyed playing with the new toy that Zina brought for him.

Today Great Grandma took Joshua and I out for dinner, we went to East Side Marios, which is a favourite of mine and I haven't enjoyed quite the same out West. Joshua was great the whole time we were out for lunch and sat in his high chair and babbled to himself the whole time. After lunch we headed to the mall for a bit of shopping. Great Grandma got Joshua a warm sweater since I forgot to bring Joshua's coat (oops).

On Monday, Joshua and I just spent the day hanging around the house and settled in, we also made a trip to the grocery store. I picked up some Farley's Biscuits for Joshua to try. He really seems to enjoy them and he maintained a very good grip on them while he was eating them.
